Hi there! I've been trying to dig up as much info as I can about jacksonville, and the only thing I can't discover is if it's gay friendly! My boyfriend, a few friends and I are looking to move down there, but we want to feel safe too. We don't care much about the night life since from what I found there seems to be no gay clubs/bars there, but I would appreciate to know if people are at least accepting (or at the very least not hassle anybody for being gay).

I realize there are better areas in NC for gay friendly places, but my one friend is really pushing for Jacksonville.. just curious if anyone knows or has any stories to disseminate .

And I do realize its a big military town - thats a big reason she wants to move there haha

Very very interesting! It sounds like where we live in NJ. My one friend is gay, but you wouldn't know until he opened his mouth, my other friend likes to dress in drag but he would probably save that for in the residence or at a prevent, and my boyfriend is a trans man but has been on hormones for years so he passes perfectly.

I was thinking that being from NJ would probably be a bigger issue than being lgbt haha.

Jacksonville NC Gay Friendly?

Jacksonville once had a booming Gay Bar in the 1990s called Friends Lounge. It was located on LeJeune Blvd near where Onslow Motors is located today. It had literally hundreds of Marines in the Club on a weekend Night and was almost too popular. There was a Documentary movie about it and it was on National News a few times. The Owner was a Flamboyant Performer at the Club and was not originally from Jacksonville,NC. He got sick of the harassment t
