This week Kait Borsay is joined by former Chelsea, Arsenal, and England international Lianne Sanderson, to investigate the progress made in eradicating homophobia from football. With this podcast falling on rainbow laces day, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to analyse any changes that possess happened since the players such as Jake Daniels and Josh Cavallo came out as lgbtq+, the differences between the men’s and women’s game and the potential positives and negatives of hosting the Planet Cup in Qatar next month. We also hear from Carl Fearn, co-chair of the Homosexual Gooners, about his experiences of creature an LGBTQ+ football fan and the fantastic work Arsenal and many other clubs are doing to end homophobia in football.

Thatchillthat's begun to fall over the Northeast can only mean one thing: Football season has arrived. It arrived a few weeks ago, yes, but so did Fashion Week, and I'm not trying to conceal my priorities here, OK? But truth be told, I love me some football. Yes, you heard me. I swallow beer (wheat ale), wear my team's jersey on game day (tucked in), and even leave my phone in the other room (ringer on, of course). If it's game day, you're dead to me for a rare hours as I accept the most hypermasculine action that my body is able to muster. And sure, it's just a bunch of grown-ass men wearing spandex and running around trying to grab a flying pigskin, but I bet what you do is just as bullshit, unless you're, state, a doctor, a lawyer, or a former Malcolm in the Middle cast member. I'm talking at you, Jane Kaczmarek.
In my formative years, I was plagued with the gayest affliction: a passion for show tunes. The 21 laws of rugby union, put and regulated by World Rugby, characterize the rules and regulations governing the game. These laws cover various aspects of play, from scoring and player positions to foul play and correspond procedures. Here’s an overview of some key areas covered by the rugby laws:
Scoring:
A try (5 points) is scored by grounding the ball with downward pressure in the opponent’s in-goal area.
Conversion (2 points) is attempted by kicking the ball through the goalposts after scoring a try.
Penalty kicks (3 points) and drop goals (3 points) can be scored during play.
Players and Positions:
Teams consist of 15 players divided into forwards and backs.Positions include props, hookers, locks (second-row forwards), flankers, number 8 (forwards), scrum-half, fly-half, centers, wingers, and fullback (backs).
Set Pieces:
Scrums: Contested by eight players from each team to restart play after certain infringements.
Lineouts: Used to restart play after the ball goes out of bounds, involving players lifting teammates to grab the ball.
Open Play:
Rucks and Mauls: Occur when players rivalry possession on the ground (ruck) or while standing (maul).
