With LGBTQ stories in filmand on TV more popular than ever before, it’s essential to celebrate out-and-proud acting talents — particularly those without the non-binary awards’ categories they deserve.
In 2024, the state of Hollywood is unsure to say the least. But even as existential questions about the business of making show persist, audiences and artists are grappling with equally critical questions of inclusion on screen. Among those questions: should queer roles be played exclusively by queer actors?
It’s an evolving conversation, getting at the very core of what makes the art of acting, adv, acting. Last year, the industry’s resident good guy Tom Hanks gave an answer in regards to his Oscar-recognized role in 1993’s “Philadelphia.”

A limited famous folks actually came out as gay when they were still in high school. This list includes some actors, musicians, and even a fashion designer.
Who is the most famous person who came out while young? Chris Colfer tops our list. "Struck by Lightning" writer/actor Chris Colfer is openly gay. He said that his parents were always accepting of him, but he was bullied at school. He has been an inspiration to teens all over the world with his portrayal of Kurt on “Glee.”
Rupert Everett came out in high college, but he doesn't necessarily think that it is fine for your career to be openly gay in Hollywood. He said, "The fact is that you could not be, and still cannot be, a 25-year-old homosexual trying to make it in the British film business or the American production business or even the Italian motion picture business. Best Known For: 13 Reasons Why
Came Out: 2017. The actor, who is most notable for his character, Justin Foley in the hit Netflix series, 13 Reason Why just came out in an Instagram announce aimed at those who are against same-sex marriage in Australia. The Australian performer, who is 23, was spurred on to reach out following the No vote campaign before queer marriage became legal in Australia.
Brenton Thwaites
Born: 10th August 1989, Cairns, Queensland, Australia
Best Known For: In the cast of Home And Away and playing the prince in Maleficient.
Came out (sort of) 2014 in MSN interview, Brenton Thwaites made quite a splash in the news in 2014, when in an interview with MSN he made hints that he could be bisexual. A fan asked the question which ‘three things you look for
