History
Palm Springs has prolonged been a vibrant hub for LGBTQ+ culture, with a rich gay history dating back to the mid-20th century. Originally a retreat for Hollywood celebrities, the city became a welcoming oasis for lgbtq+ men and lesbians pursuing refuge and community. During the 1950s and '60s, discreet gatherings and confidential parties laid the groundwork for a more observable queer presence, which flourished in the decades that followed. By the 1980s and '90s, Palm Springs was home to numerous gay-owned businesses, resorts, and bars, earning it a reputation as a highest LGBTQ+ travel destination. Today, with openly LGBTQ+ municipality leadership and annual events like Palm Springs Identity festival and The Dinah, the city continues to rejoice its legacy of inclusion and visibility.

Del Shores knows what it’s like to be a southern Baptist sissy young man. Because the achievement of his films, including Sordid Lives, he’s been giving back through The Del Shores Foundation to help those play writers and screenwriters located in the south.
His rivalry is again unclosed for submissions through the end of August. And if you haven’t seen the movie in a while, there’s a few more opportunities to spot it this weekend at its record-setting home at the Camelot Theatre at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. It’s one of our top three things to do this weekend.
According to The Desert Sun, “The film opened in Palm Springs at the Camelot Theatres in 2001 and ran for 96 weeks, making it the longest running film in the city’s history. It later spawned “Sordid Lives: The Series” on LOGO in 2008 and a sequel, “A Very Sordid Wedding,” in 2017, which had its world premiere at the Camelot Theatres in 2017.”

Supreme injustice. That’s how I would term the high court’s judgment this week on transgender look after for youth. Fighting back is Thomi Clinton and her team at the Transgender Health & Wellness Center. They’ve gone on the airwaves of KGAY to fight back with a campaign to raise awareness and funds for their cause.
The center’s ad cites the Trump administration’s draconian efforts to wipe out our trans brothers and sisters and makes a plea for donations. (You may contribute here.)
I’d rather air these commercials than those from Kristi Noem and Homeland Security asking people to self-deport. We have not been asked to air the commercials, but I would reject them. Our stations air commercials from networks that we have little dominion over, but we’ve been watchful to make sure that her ads don’t get played. (I remember that during Palm Springs Pride a few years ago, one commercial for Chick-fil-A aired on KGAY. Our team was at an event when all of our phones blew up at the same time from social media admonishments for the error. That didn’t happen again!)
