Free games for gays

There are many free indie games available online: some better than others. I generally like pretty graphics and strong story lines, which aren’t generally the focus of free games. However, there are many areas not covered in games made by companies trying to sell to large audiences, or if they include them, it often ends up feeling inaccurate or stereotyped. In this article I’m talking about LGBT/MOGAI storylines, themes, and characters.

Even when the game avoids those pitfalls, the MOGAI element is generally a fairly miniature portion. Sure, there is Dragon Age: Inquisition and Fall Out: Las Vegas (and the other Dragon Age and Fall Out games) but those are the only ones I can think off the top of my head.

While in both of those queerness is normalized to a degree, the emphasis is on other elements. That can be fine, but sometimes (read: often) I want more queerness and in pretty much any game I engage where it would be relevant. So in my grand hunt for more, I wandered into the area of indie games, specifically free ones, and some of which earn a little odd. Compared to the “typical” video game these don’t fit neatly into boxes. They are indeed a petite que

A choose-your-own track game: a lgbtq+ dating sim

Obscura1

Hello folks. I’ve been a fan of Choice-of-Games but yep, I decided to go the Ren’Py route to inflict–I mean–share, my imaginative talents with the world.

I ended up making a demo for a homosexual male dating sim.

If you’re interested, please check it out. I’ve used the various helpful articles from this site to help me map out routes to my game. The game will be available December 2013 and is called “Coming Out On Top.”

It’s another game being crowdfunded through Kickstarter. At the moment, it’s gotten a lot of support. Additional support is welcome of course, but if not, critiques from actual fans of the multiple-branching-storyline model would be excellent. I ponder there’s a superb chance you’ll appreciate the demo too if you enjoy m/m romance/games/fiction.

While the game is story and character based, it is an 18+ game due to some erotic content. Please review out the demo if you’re interested. (Link is on the Kickstarter site.)

And yes–the main criticism is not the writing so much as the reality all the guys look like models. I’m afraid that’s due the evidence I just drew the guys that way before the game started

Just another thought (sorry): would it produce sense to contain tags like “Exclusive Gay Romance”?

And definitely the inverse, too, would be a boon. “Gay Romance Option” as a tag would be a filter I’d use a lot… I’ve already glanced at Hosted Games’ codes before reading them just in order to check if they were straight-locked…

Ok, I’ve added some romance tags as well. Let me know if there should be others or if there is a way to better clarify the existing tags.

How do we add tags? I’ve looked on the Edit Game Details page and there doesn’t seem to be an option.

    dashingdon188

In the Edit Game Details you should see a “Story Category Tags” title text and a link beneath it to show all the tags. Since there are so many (and growing) I didn’t wish them to clutter up the page by default. If it’s not dispel I can figure out another way to ensure authors know where the tag options are.

I see that link, but nothing happens when I click it.

    Nonbinary romance option, I suppose?
