Brothers Osborne's T.J. Osborne comes out as gay

T.J. Osborne, one half of sibling duo Brothers Osborne, discussed being gay for the first time in public.

"There are times when I think I've marginalized this part of me so that I feel enhanced about it...and I recognize that it is a big part of who I am: The way I think, the way I act, the way I perform," he explained in a new interview with TIME. "God, contemplate about all the times that we talk about love, and write about love. It's the biggest thing we ever acquire to feel. And I've kept the veil on."

Osborne's coming out marks a historic moment for the genre, as he is now the first openly gay artist to be signed to a major country label.

"You know that thing -- stand for something, or you'll tumble for anything? That sounds like something someone in country music would utter . But if you stay for something and it's not what they position for, then they loathe it," the singer, 36, added.

Brothers Osborne's vocal duo of the year win at Wednesday night's CMA Awards was extra nice for T.J. Osborne in one giant way. The singer, who came out as gay in February, got to bring his lover, Abi Ventura, to the awards show.

The couple even common a celebratory peck before T.J. and his brother and bandmate, John Osborne, took to the stage for their acceptance speech.

Speaking to "Entertainment Tonight" after the show, T.J. admitted that he had some doubts about whether or not he should bring Ventura to the award exhibit this year, saying "some of those fears sneak up."

But he didn't allow it stop him, adding, "I was like, 'I wish this doesn't form anyone uncomfortable, but this is how I feel.'"

T.J. said Ventura, whom he called a "cutie," was nervous about their public appearance as a couple as well: "He was probably more nervous than anybody and he probably felt incredibly uncomfortable."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- It was a unique night for T.J. Osborne.

He and his brother John perform as the Brothers Osborne and won vocal duo of the year at the 2021 Country Tune Association Awards.

It was their fourth time taking home that trophy.

T.J. Osborne, who publicly shared for the first time in February that he is gay, kissed his boyfriend Abi Ventura after the win was announced whle his brother kissed his wife, Lucie Silvas.

"I tell you, every time we have won this award, it has never, ever ceased to be extremely shocking," T.J. Osborne said.

Chris Stapleton was the big winner with six trophies and Luke Combs won the biggest prize with entertainer of the year.

He then thanked everyone, including the voters.

"It's been a crazy roller coaster of a year for us in so many ways, especially for me emotionally," Osborne said. "And to have you all back me, it really does notice like love wins tonight. Recognize you."
